One Dead in Pascagoula After Early Morning House Fire
At about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, the Pascagoula Fire Department was called to a home on Cleveland Avenue. A neighbor on his way to work called 911 after the seeing smoke coming from the home. Firefighters tell News 25 they tried to fight their way to a back bedroom to rescue the victim, but by the time they got there, it was too late.
Deputy Chief Donnie Carlson of the Pascagoula Fire Department says, “But the heat was really strong, so they had to back out and try to regroup, and they tried to go back in a second time.”
Ronald Lofton, a neighbor, says, “She was a good natured woman, I mean, good, good hearted woman. She’d do anything for anybody, you know, and you couldn’t help but being her friend.”
The Jackson County Coroner expects to have a positive identification of the victim Thursday.
