Ole Miss returns to NCAA Tournament

As far as first impressions go, Kermit Davis Jr. is making a really good one in Oxford. His first Selection Sunday as head coach of the Rebels was one to remember for Ole Miss.

The Rebs are back in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2015 as a number 8 seed in the south region. Their first round matchup will be against 9 seed Oklahoma.

Ole Miss went one-and-done in the SEC Tourney, but made it to the big dance on the strength of their overall mark of 20-12.

Now it’s up to a dynamic back-court and a first-year head coach to make sure they don’t go one-and-done again. Guard Breein Tyree said, “I haven’t slept since we lost to Alabama, so I’ve been nervous since then.”

Guard Terrance Davis said, “This being Coach’s first year, I think that we won’t be satisfied being there cause when he came it was kind of expected. He pointed me out, pointed some guys out and said it shouldn’t be a rebuilding year so I just think that we get in the tournament, anything is possible. We play our hardest, come out with some victories.”

Davis said, “They told me thank you, and it’s a big thank you back. And so that makes you feel good that you were a part of an experience that those two guys have been waiting on and they worked really hard for. And two guys that really love Ole Miss, and so that was really fun to see.”

Ole Miss and Oklahoma will start dancing on Friday with an 11:40 a.m. start time on TruTV.
