Ole Miss beats South Alabama
Amidst the unceremonious departure of former Ole Miss Head Football Coach Hugh Freeze and the seemingly ever ongoing NCAA investigation, there was only so much talking the Rebels could do about how they’d respond.
At the end of the day, they had to let their play do it for them under interim Coach and Gulfport native Matt Luke. The end result was Saturday’s 47-27 win over South Alabama in his first game at the helm.
Although the Rebs aren’t out of the woods just yet in terms of potential NCAA sanctions, there’s a lot to be said about getting that first victory out of the way. “Just a great night, it was a lot of fun getting the first win under your belt. A lot of emotions early, but once the game kicked off kind of settled into it. But I think there’s a lot of things we need to get cleaned up from Game one to Game two, but always better to make those corrections after a win,” said Luke.
Ole Miss Wide Receiver A.J. Brown said, “It was big, the first win after everything that had happened. A lot of people talking down on us so we really wanted to respond because we can’t do nothing about it. Talking does nothing, so we just had to go out and show it on the field.”
Next up for the Rebels is another home game on Saturday versus UT Martin at 11 a.m.
