Officials Worried About Opioid Abuse
State officials are worried about Mississippi’s Opioid problems. This after Governor Phil Bryant issues an executive order creating an opioid and heroin study task force. The state hasn’t seen the dramatic increases in deaths related to the misuse of prescription pain pills that places like Kentucky and Alabama have seen. But officials with the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics say Mississippi is on the same pattern as those other states were and that people need to wake up. The state hasn’t seen a significant increase in opioid-related deaths but it has a high rate of opioid prescriptions.
