Official Tournament Date Announced For 2015 Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic
This year’s event will feature more opportunities for the public to get up close and personal with the players, as well as more opportunities for local businesses to get involved. Additional sky boxes are being added on the Par-3 17th hole, and a newly designated viewing area will be available on the 18th hole. For the fifth consecutive year, all three tournament rounds will be broadcast live on the Golf Channel.
“Our mission is to promote the Mississippi Gulf Coast,” said Roy Anderson III, Mississippi Gulf Resort Classic Foundation Board Chairman. “Very few communities have the privilege of hosting a Champions Tour event. This annual event gives us both a regional and international stage to tell the area’s story about our proud heritage, beautiful natural environment, first-class recreational and commercial fishing and shrimping industry, arts and museums, acclaimed signature golf courses, and Las Vegas styled gaming and entertainment. The Mississippi Gulf Coast area, with its renowned southern hospitality, is a great place to live, and we want others around the region and the world to come visit and experience it for themselves."
The 2015 tournament expects to attract another world class field. Last year’s event featured nine World Golf Hall of Fame members, 20 PGA TOUR Major winners covering 33 titles, and 22 Champions Tour Major winners covering 37 titles. Past champions include Jeff Maggert, Michael Allen, Fred Couples, Tom Lehman, and David Eger.
“This is one of the player’s favorite events on the Champions Tour schedule,” said Tournament Director Steve Nieman. “They look forward to playing Fallen Oak just weeks before The Masters, and they genuinely enjoy spending time on the beautiful Mississippi Gulf Coast and experiencing the southern hospitality we’re famous for in Mississippi.”
Volunteer registration is now open online at www.2015MGRC.com. Volunteers are the backbone of this tournament, with approximately 1,000 people working over the course of the week. There are more than two dozen committees actively recruiting volunteers, including Marshals, Walking Scorers, Player Shuttles, Caddie Hospitality, Access Control, and the Welcome Center Hospitality —each vital to the success of the tournament.
Volunteers receive a volunteer package valued at $350 for their registration fee of $60. This includes their volunteer Nike uniform, credentials, a parking pass, tickets to the tournament, meals during shifts, an invitation to the Volunteer Appreciation Party, and a complimentary round of golf at Grand Bear or a complimentary buffet from Harrah’s Gulf Coast. Also, for the first time ever, volunteers have the opportunity to play Fallen Oak as a part of one of four volunteer play days in the summer of 2015.
