Officer McKeithen’s family speaks with Chief John Miller

Biloxi Police Chief John Miller sat down with Officer McKeithen’s family to remember and reflect on Officer McKeithen’s life.

The city created the six minute video after requests to interview the family. The video was recorded yesterday afternoon, shortly before the prayer vigil at Lopez-Quave Public Safety Center.

During the video, the family also thanked the Biloxi Police Department and others who they have encountered in the days after the shooting.

McKeithen’s wife, Pamela, reflected on what it meant for him to serve and protect the community. “Besides his family, that was his life.”

“He always talked about retiring, but it was always one of those things like ‘one more year, one more year.’ He loved this job and he never really wanted to quit.”

Governor Phil Bryant also extended his regrets to the family and will issue an executive order to fly all flags half-staff this upcoming Monday, the same day Officer McKeithen will be laid to rest.

Chief Miller spoke to McKeithen’s step-son who says he feels truly honored that the community is coming together to help them say goodbye to his step-father. “It’s a great honor and I believe that he deserves that. I’m happy that people are trying to show their respect.”
