Officer Involved Shootout in Pass Christian

A man is now in custody after an afternoon shootout with Harrison County deputies in Pass Christian. News 25’s Kendra Turley walks us through the series of scary events this afternoon.
Multiple agencies blocked off the area surrounding Nicholas Ladner Road in Pass Christian this afternoon after a house visit from deputies turned into an officer involved shootout. “Two of our deputies responded out here as a request by Hancock County to service an arrest warrant on an individual out here,” said Harrison County Chief Deputy Ron Pullen.
Deputies approached the mobile home on Edwin Ladner Road to issue an arrest warrant for Kenneth Beech Jr. on felony drug charges, possession of a firearm and felony fleeing. “They get to the house where he was supposed to be. They approach the house. He ran out of the back of the house. He was armed with a hand gun,” said Pullen.
Deputies followed the armed suspect to the back of the house. That’s when Beech pulled his weapon and started to shoot. Deputies returned fire and followed Beech north through the wooded area. Residents in the area were asked to stay put until deputies successfully captured the suspect. Resident Freddi Ladner said, “We just finding out all the details on it but through the woods is a very short distance from where the house is where the Beech’s lived.”
Multiple agencies blocked off the area until a Harrison County K-9 apprehended Beech around 5:30 p.m. “Thank goodness. No one was injured expect for the suspect did suffer some dog bites but he was not shot, either,” said Pullen.
Pullen tells News 25 he’s pleased with the way all agencies handled the situation. “Everybody did their job and we’re happy with it. We’re just happy no one got injured and no one got shot. It could’ve been worse, way worse than what it was.”
