Police: Suspect dead following hostage situation in Gulfport early Thursday

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV) — One person is dead following an officer-involved shooting early Thursday morning in Gulfport.

Gulfport Police say officers responded at about 1:40 a.m. to a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute in the 100 block of David Street.

Gulfport Chief of Police Chris Ryle tells WXXV that when officers arrived on scene and made contact with the victim and suspect, they quickly realized the incident was a hostage situation.

Officers fired at the suspect and he later succumbed to his injuries. The suspect was pronounced dead on scene.

The victim was transported to a local hospital.

The Harrison County District Attorney’s Office has requested that the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation handle the investigation with the assistance of the Biloxi Police Department Crime Scene Unit.
