Ocean Springs Upper Elementary Named Healthiest School in Mississippi

Ocean Springs Upper Elementary School now has bragging rights and a $50,000 check after being named Mississippi’s healthiest school.
The Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi Foundation recognized Ocean Springs Upper Elementary for their continued efforts to not only support a healthy lifestyle within their students but with faculty and the community as well.
The whole school celebrated the achievement with a pep rally, special appearance by Coach Calhoun from “Move to Learn” and performances from the school’s choir, cheer, dance team and more. Ocean Springs Upper Elementary Principal Susan Dollar said, “We’re just so excited, ready to spend that money and right now the kids are having a great pep rally in there, showing off all of the sports activities and clubs that our kids have been in this year. That also adds to their health and wellness. They’re getting to display that to the rest of the student body. They’re cheering right now and having a great time.”
Ocean Springs Upper Elementary plans to use the $50,000 to expand their playground equipment, add to their faculty and staff workout room, upgrade cafeteria equipment and more.
