Ocean Springs School District ranks among top three in state assessment
The Mississippi Department of Education has released their standardized test scores from last year and Greyhound Nation in Ocean Springs may have some bragging rights.
Ocean Springs School District was named one of only three school districts in the state to score in the top 10 in all four testing area subjects including math, language arts, history, and science.
Overall, 68% of Ocean Springs students scored proficient and above on the mathematics assessment and 58% scored proficient and above on ELA assessments.
The accomplishment thrilled OSSD Superintendent Dr. Bonita Coleman when she heard the news. “Our teachers work incredibly hard. The support that they receive from Central Office, but also from our parents and our community is incredible. I’ve never worked in a place like Ocean Springs School District. This is an important distinction that recognizes the great work that our teachers are doing.”
Dr. Coleman says she is especially proud of her district to receive these scores with the amount of growth they’ve see. Right now, they have 6,100 students enrolled and are welcoming around 200 new students every year outside of kindergarten.
