Ocean Springs School District announces reopening plan for 2020

At a Board of Trustees meeting tonight, the Ocean Springs School District announced its plan for reopening schools for the upcoming school year.

The plan calls for a traditional schedule with enhanced health and safety protocols, allowing students to return on August 5th.

Parent and student surveys were conducted prior to releasing the plan, as well as consultations with Singing River Health System as part of the OSSD Medical Advisory Board.

Features of the plan include mandatory face masks on school buses, eating meals in classrooms, and not allowing non-essential visitors and volunteers on campus.

Temperature screenings and sanitation of high-touch surfaces will also be implemented and a virtual learning academy will be available for students with documented medical needs or immunity concerns.
