Ocean Springs PD responds to man threatening to set house on fire

Officers with the Ocean Springs Police Department responded to Porter Ave. in Ocean Springs in reference to a male subject that was threatening to set fire to a house he was staying in.

While on scene, officers observed broken windows and the subject actively destroying the residence.  Officers made contact with Joshua Butcher who barricaded himself in the residence and refused to speak with officers.

Officers opened a line of communication with Butcher and began negotiating with him.  Butcher was eventually taken into custody. Butcher was transported to Singing River Hospital by Acadian Ambulance service for evaluation.

The Ocean Springs Police Department would like to thank the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department for their assistance in this matter.
