Ocean Springs mayor pushes for medical marijuana
This past weekend, Ocean Springs Mayor Shea Dobson hosted a signature gathering event for the medical marijuana 2020 campaign.
If voters agree to the initiative, the Mississippi Constitution will create a legal process for physicians in Mississippi to certify the use of medical marijuana for patients with debilitating medical conditions. It will also allow patients to obtain medical marijuana from licensed facilities regulated by the Mississippi Department of Health.
More than 86,000 registered voters in Mississippi have to sign the petition in favor of the initiative to appear on the November 2020 ballot. “The opioid epidemic is undeniably here and it’s something that could really help our state and provide relief to a lot of people with a lot of different conditions. Really, it’s just an opportunity to allow people the freedom to choose their own healthcare that they see fit,” said Mayor Dobson.
