Ocean Springs man takes down monster gator in South Florida

An Ocean Springs man took down a 13-foot alligator that had been poaching calves on a private cattle ranch.

Doug Borries, who owns Dynamic Outdoors TV, was in South Florida and was invited to hunt down the massive reptile that weighed in at 905 pounds and was 13 feet, 4 inches long.

He was believed to be 80 years old.

Borries killed the alligator from 321 yards using a custom rifle. The alligator is the largest taken by a non-resident.

“I was staked out on top of the lake levee before daylight and shot him on an island in the middle of the lake, shortly after daylight,” Borries said.

“It was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me and I was lucky enough to put a perfect shot on him at such a long range.  It pays to have a good gun.”

Local ranchers suspected that the gator had eaten calves that had gone missing around the lake.
