Ocean Springs High Receives $25K Grant

Ocean Springs High School students learned today that it pays to be healthy.
At a pep rally, the Ocean Springs High School Health Council was presented with a $25,000 grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield to further health and wellness at the school. The grant was part of the Healthy School Award the school received after applying for it last fall. Their application displayed the school’s high level of nutrition, physical activity, community involvement along with a top notch health council.
While it was Ocean Springs celebrating today, a couple other Coast schools will soon be joining the party. Eugenia King with the Blue Cross Blue Shield Mississippi Foundation said, “We had schools from all over the state apply for the Healthy School Award, but we will have three schools that will receive awards this month. Ocean Springs High School received a Healthy School Award for $25,000. Later today, we will be awarding 28th Street Elementary with a Healthy School Award and later this month, Ocean Springs Upper Elementary will receive the Healthiest School Award for being the healthiest school in Mississippi.”
Applications for these grants are judged by health experts from across the state.
