Ocean Springs Approves Landscaping at the Harbor

Monday night, the Board of Aldermen for the City of Ocean Springs approved spending nearly $50,000 of its Tidelands grant money for landscaping at the harbor located in the city.

The landscaping will be part an acre of green space which will replace an old boat shed at the harbor. Both Ocean Springs and Jackson County are working to revitalize the harbor. Several other improvements are also scheduled, including a new pavilion, a sidewalk for pedestrians, and an expanded roadway for the boat launch.

Connie Moran, Mayor of Ocean Springs, says, “So the Michael Wayne Harbor Green will have, we could have fishing rodeos there, we could have events during Smokin’ the Sound, or the Christmas boat parade, just as an example.”

Work on the harbor is expected to be completed in February of 2015.
