New Walmart Neighborhood Markets Officially Open
Hundreds of locals woke up early to check out Walmart’s two new Neighborhood Market locations in Biloxi and D’Iberville. News 25 was there and spoke with folks on both sides of the aisle, who say these stores are a great investment for the economy and community. Larry Gonsoulin and his wife were among the first customers to enter the new Walmart Neighborhood Market in Biloxi at Wednesday morning’s grand opening.
The line to get in was long, but the commute to the new Pass Road store was short for the Gonsoulins. Larry Gonsoulin says, "We currently go to the Walmart in Edgewater, but this store here is right around the corner, so it’s very convenient for us."
Walmart Neighborhood Markets are smaller versions of the larger super centers and are designed to better serve small communities. The store in Biloxi and the one in D’Iberville are just two of 26 Neighborhood Markets opening across the country.
These new Neighborhood Markets are bringing more convenience and jobs to the Coast, adding 190 jobs filled by local residents. Dixie Newman, a Biloxi Councilwoman, says, "I think just the fact alone that they’re giving jobs to the employees, I saw all the smiling faces today and that just shows the positive light that it means a lot to them."
Store Manager, Angillette Williams, says they had their work cut out for them, but it was well worth it, as witnessed by the smiling faces and bargain shoppers at Wednesday’s grand opening event. Williams says, "Growing the business here in the community, serving this community, being able to give back to the community, and also helping the associates that we hire promote to the next level."
Walmart is growing a business to serve more customers like the Gonsoulins, and helping to open more doors to stores like this one along the Coast.
