New W.I.S.H Society of South Mississippi members

There are 60 children in South Mississippi alone waiting for their wishes to be granted. Ten local women are joining forces with Make-A-Wish Mississippi to help make those wishes a reality.

A new program put on by Make-A-Wish Mississippi that honors women in the community is planning on bringing a smile to children’s faces here on the Gulf Coast. The ‘Women Inspiring Strength and Hope Society of South Mississippi’ selected 10 members to its program based on their professional success, civic achievements, and their commitment to philanthropy. W.I.S.H Society of South MS Chair Shelley Chennault said, “We decided to go with this campaign. It’s something new this year. It’s our first year and we’re really excited about it, see how it grows every year,”

Besides bringing together female community members of South Mississippi, each member raises funds to help grant wishes for children in the community. “Their jobs now are to go out into the community, work with businesses, friends, family, everyone. Put it out on social media. They’re empowered to grant the wish however they want to grant the wishes.”

Make-A-Wish of South Mississippi Director Shellie Marengo Moses says the fact that the new society is all women is a great strength for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. “As women, we’re definitely a force to be reckoned with. And we’re so passionate about helping people. And so the ladies that are in our inaugural group are very passionate and come from different walks of life and all over the coast. And so, it kinda represents kinda how Make-A-Wish is and what our kids are about.”

All of the honorees and their accomplishments will be honored at a W.I.S.H luncheon following the two-month fundraising campaign. At the luncheon the W.I.S.H. Society of South Mississippi Woman of the Year will be named.
