New Taxi Regulations Become Law

A new law signed by the governor will regulate UBER, LYFT and other ride-sharing services on a statewide basis.

The state insurance department is now in charge of overseeing the services.

Previously individual cities have traditionally regulated taxi services in Mississippi.

The law requires each company to pay a $5,000 dollars yearly license fee and it requires the driver or the company to have insurance covering the transportation of passengers.

The measure also requires criminal background checks on drivers.
