New Orleans Monument Hearing Date Set
A date is set for the continued court battle over four New Orleans monuments honoring Civil War figures.
The 5th U.S. Circuit Court set the date for September 28th. The Federal Appeals Court will hear from both sides on this case.
Mayor Mitch Landrieu was urged to remove the monuments depicting Robert E. Lee, PGT Beauregard and Confederate President Jefferson Davis. The fourth monument honors whites who fought to topple a bi-racial post-Civil War government in New Orleans.
The push for removal comes after the shooting of nine parishioners at a black church in Charleston, South Carolina. Shortly after the shooting, New Orleans City Council voted to remove the monuments in December and that is when the fight began.
