New law targets teen gun violence in Mississippi
A host of new laws take effect July 1 following the 2026 Legislative Session.
One is getting a lot of attention. As of July 1, teenagers who commit crimes with guns will now be charged as adults.
The law means juveniles will bypass youth court and head straight to circuit court.
WXXV News 25’s Dave Elliott spoke to Long Beach Police Chief Billy Seal about teen violence involving guns and the new law. Hear what Chief Seal has to say in the video above.
The new law also targets people who sell a teen a stolen gun. They face up to 20 years in prison.
