New headquarters for The Arts, Hancock County

One of Hancock County’s major arts programs is expanding thanks to a major donation.

‘The Arts, Hancock County’ recently acquired the former studio of Mardi Gras fashion designer Carter Church thanks to a $180,000 donation from arts supporter Mamie Hillery.

Plans for the 2400 square foot facility include office and exhibition space for the organization and its member artists as well as an outdoor art park on the property.

Executive Director Steve Barney says this purchase helps to expand arts education within the county. “Really the mainstay of the building is this workshop area where artists will be able to deliver all kinds of workshops to everyone in the community, after school programs for kids, mentoring. Really community engagement of all sorts.”

The organization will spend the next year renovating the building which is located on Blaize Avenue in Bay St. Louis’ Depot District.
