New executive director for housing authority

There’s a new leader in charge of the Mississippi Regional Housing Authority Number Eight. He plans to build the organization up even higher.
A luncheon was held to welcome the new executive director at the Lyman Community Center in Gulfport today. New Executive Director Jessie Billups will oversee the corporation’s operations in helping provide affordable housing to those in need.
Billups tells News 25 his mission is to take the housing authority to the next step. “A sense of innovation, a sense of looking at what we have that’s good and bringing it to a place of greatness. That’s what I bring to the table. I also want to bring a sense of leadership and teamwork.”
Supportive Service Coordinator Philana Harrell said, “His main goal and his main purpose is helping others. He has a heart. He has a passion to help others.”
The corporation is the largest housing authority in the state of Mississippi, helping around ten thousand families in Mississippi find rental and housing assistance.
