New development for the Gulfport Marina
The Gulfport Marina will be seeing more traffic as a new elevated structure is in the works.
The new building is still in the planning phase, but Gulfport City Council gave the go-ahead on the project this afternoon. The elevated building will house a restaurant. This will be the first restaurant in the marina area since Hurricane Katrina.
The new building will be built just south of the harbor, the same area that housed a restaurant before Katrina. David Parker with City of Gulfport Economic Development said, “It’s going to be tremendous for visitors to the harbor, to Gulfport, for boaters. It’s going to be a new restaurant, bait shop, fuel dock.”
Johnny Olsen with LPK Architects said, “You’re going to see a very familiar operator. I don’t want to give away all the secrets just yet, but I think all the residents and tourists are going to be pleasantly surprised.”
The building and restaurant are expected to be complete sometime around the end of 2019 or the beginning of 2020.
