New Businesses coming to Biloxi

If you haven’t spent time in Biloxi recently you may not recognize it due to the all of the new businesses.

It seems like almost every day there is a new business popping up in Biloxi. From restaurants to hotels and even places you can throw axes, the city is seeing some major growth. Cecilia Dobbs Walton with the City of Biloxi said, “There is always something here that attracts people. We have a lot of family entertainment, parks, and of course all of this development that is going on now not only in downtown but throughout the city.”

But this growth in Biloxi didn’t happen overnight, it took many years for the city to rebuild after it was devastated by Hurricane Katrina. “It took a little while after Katrina because there were a lot of regulations that were changing with the flood insurance, and a lot of people even with the City of Biloxi have reimbursement and rebuilding, you know Biloxi is an old city. We have a lot of really old, historic buildings.”

One of Biloxi’s newest business is very unique. It’s an axe throwing establishment that also features a bar and restaurant. Skal Axe Throwing is located on Howard Avenue and they will be open to the public starting Friday. Skal Axe Throwing Owner Daniel McNatt said, “We are excited to get this up and rolling officially. It has been a long process getting into this over 100-year-old building in downtown Biloxi. It took a little longer than we hoped, but it’s here now and we are pumped about it.”

McNatt is a Coast native who says he’s excited to add to the growth of Biloxi. “This is my hometown and it is so significant to me to be part of revitalizing downtown Biloxi and bringing it back. We’re part of the District on Howard, which is helping bring a lot of new businesses to the area so it does my heart good to be one of those first people to come back since Katrina and get Biloxi back to better than it has ever been.”

On January 30th at the Beau Rivage, Mayor Gilich will be discussing the developments in the City of Biloxi at the State of the City Address.
