New Bishop has Strong Ties to the Coast
There’s a new bishop in Biloxi and he’s no stranger to the Gulf Coast.
Pope Francis has named Reverend Louis Kihneman the Third to serve as the fourth bishop of Biloxi. The appointment was announced today in Washington, D.C.
The bishop-elect was born in Louisiana, but says he grew up spending his summers on the Coast from Bay St. Louis to Biloxi.
Bishop-Elect Kihneman was a priest for nearly 40 years in Corpus Christ. He tells News 25 he’s excited to return and serve as the new chief shepherd for the 58,000 Catholics living in South Mississippi. “I look forward to leading the people of the Diocese and especially to get to know the people of the Diocese of Biloxi. It’s been a long time since I’ve been here and I have a lot of catching up to do.”
Bishop Roger Morin said, “I find him to have a very pleasant personality, a well-mannered gentleman. I feel like he’s going to be well received by the people.”
The fourth bishop of Biloxi will officially be ordained and installed into the Diocese on February 17th at the Nativity of BVM Cathedral in Biloxi.
