New amenities at Shepard State Park in Gautier

Looking for some fun summer activities to do with your family this summer? Yesterday, the City of Gautier held a ribbon cutting for their new welcome center and marsh walk at Shepard State Park.

The new welcome center is a historic two-story log cabin with renovated restrooms, meeting rooms, and a general store for visitors to enjoy.

The brand-new marsh walk is 1,000 feet of pier, allowing visitors to get a closer look at the local habitat.

The boardwalk includes lighting and wildlife information to teach visitors about local birds, grasses, and alligators.  City of Gautier Planning Director Scott Ankerson said, “The new general store. The general store has things like snacks and drinks and firewood for campers and other apparel. So, we feel those things are going to be big help for visitors and campers here at Shepard State Park.”

The welcome center is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
