NCJAA National Signing Day around the Coast

Five athletes put pen to paper this afternoon at St. Martin as a part of NCJAA National Signing Day.

Headlining the class are baseball standouts Leif Moore and RJ Fletcher, heading to Pearl River and East Central respectively.

Cheerleading also has a pair going off to Mississippi Gulf Coast, those being Ashlynn Beam and Payton Smith.

Bettie Shoemaker will be joining them to play soccer up at Perk, rounding out the class of 2019. “It means a lot to me. You work hard every day for however many years it’s been, just something you dream about as a kid and when you finally get to do it, it just feels good,” said Fletcher.

Beam said, “I started cheering when I was a little girl, I was in like fourth grade. And so the love for the sport was just on through and I’m almost 18 years old, so it’s always been a part of me. And Perk had the same passion for the sport as I do, so that helped me make my decision for cheering at that school.”

Shoemaker said, “We went to soccer camp up there and the coaches reached out to me and I loved their facilities, their coaches and it just feels like home and it felt like the right place for me to be.”

Starting November 14th, non-football division I and II signees will be able to sign their national letters of intent.

Another local school with five signees this afternoon was Long Beach, four soccer and one softball. On the diamond, it’s Faith Peterson with PRCC, also the future school of Carson Favre on the pitch.

His teammate Joseph Burkett is heading to Lakeland University while the girls are represented by Susie Stevenson and Holly Weaver. They’re going to East Central and Perk respectively.

The Gulf Coast baseball team is landing Gulfport catcher Beckett White who signed with the Bulldogs this morning.

He’s been a key cog in Gulfport’s run to the 2017 state championship series as well as 2018 South State. The rising senior hit three home runs to go along with 21 RBIs last season.
