NCAA grants relief to Division I baseball

Help is officially on the way for college baseball programs in the wake of COVID-19.

On Wednesday, the NCAA Division I Committee for Legislative Relief granted a blanket waiver for the 2020-2021 academic year.

That eliminates the 35 man roster cap, increases the maximum number of players on scholarship from 27 to 32, and renegotiates athletics aid agreements to provide less than 25 percent scholarships.

This gives programs more flexibility as to how to manage their rosters in light of spring athletes being able to return for a second senior season while keeping signing classes intact.
