NCAA football at mercy of states, universities
NCAA President Mark Emmert says he won’t have the final say on the fate of college sports returning this fall, leaving that decision up to state officials and university presidents.
There was already prior speculation that SEC football could go on, even if other leagues can’t but even that scenario seems like less of a likelihood this week.
Yesterday, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey said the Power Five conferences were too inter-connected to do their own thing even though that’s something that could always change with time.
Today, Mississippi State released a statement documenting its commitment to reopening its campus to students this fall.
That will carry a lot of weight based on another one of Emmert’s comments last week stating “If a school doesn’t reopen, then they’re not going to be playing sports. It’s really that simple.”
