National Tire Safety Week

As you’re planning your summer getaways, if those plans include driving, you may want to check your tires before hitting the road.
This week is National Tire Safety Week. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recommends drivers check tire pressure at least once per month. It enables tires to properly support and control the vehicle. Also check your tire tread. Proper tread depth gives your vehicle the traction to stop and hold the road on curves.
Mechanics at American Lube Fast in Ocean Springs tell News 25 failing to get your tires checked puts you and everyone else on the road at risk. Mechanic Kyle Kemp said, “Tires are the most important part of the vehicle. You always want to make sure you have good tread. If not, you can run off the road and hurt somebody if you don’t have good tires. You don’t want to have a blowout or anything. You want to be safe especially if you have kids in the car or anything like that.”
As a quick home test you can check tread depth with a U.S. penny, make sure the tread goes over Lincoln’s head. If it doesn’t, your tire needs to be replaced.
