National Forestry Department teaches fire safety
Today kids at Popps Ferry Elementary in Biloxi learned all about how to prevent forest fires from the one and only Smokey the Bear!
The National Forestry Department spoke with students about important fire safety like how to put out forest fires, the importance of taking everything with you when you leave a forest, and what to do if you come across a forest fire.
Meacham Harlow from the National Forestry Department tells News 25 they want to make sure kids know the five prevention rules. “The five prevention rules are always be careful with fire. Number two: only you can prevent wildfires. Number three: always watch your campfire. Number four: don’t play with matches or lighters and number five: always make sure your campfire is completely out before leaving it.”
