NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet

Tonight the Gulfport branch of the NAACP hosted their annual Freedom Fund Banquet at Island View Casino.
Guest honoree Major General Mark Brown will be presented the Colonel Lawrence E. Roberts Sr. Award. Brown oversees all operational aspects of training at Keesler Air Force Base.
This award is bestowed upon an individual who exhibits “an unparalleled commitment to excellence, reform and advancement in aviation, military or veteran’s affairs with a determination to eliminate hurdles and break down barriers.”
Isjah Cooper attended the event. She said,”NAACP, they come together and they help children around Gulfport and they supply them with needs for school, like kids that are less fortunate. They have these meetings that they hold and kids get to get book bags and stuff if they aren’t as fortunate as other people. For me to be involved is an important part of my life because I actually look up to these people. I see them around everyday and I want to be like them.”
The theme for this year’s Freedom Fund Banquet is “pursuing liberty in the face of injustice.”
