Mystic Krewe of the Seahorse annual Lundi Gras Parade rolls February 28th

Pirates are preparing to take over the Bay. The eighth annual pirate themed Lundi Gras parade rolls through Old Town February 28th.

Mystic Krewe of the Seahorse is a nonprofit organization focused on economic development in Hancock County.

The theme for this year’s parade is ‘burning down the house.’ The name comes from the U.S.S. Seahorse and the Battle of the Bay between the United States Navy and the British Navy.

During the battle, the U.S.S. Seahorse crew set their ship on fire to avoid being surrendered to the enemy.

For krewe members like Sandy Walsh, also known as Lady Claiborne, this parade has helped her better connect with the community. “When I moved here in 2017, not knowing no one whatsoever, when I saw the first parade I was like ‘oh my I want to be a part of this.’ So, I joined and I started meeting people left and right welcoming me into the community and I learned about the history of Bay St. Louis.”

The parade is the only night parade on the Mississippi Gulf Coast on Monday night and pirate attire is encouraged. If you’re interested in joining the krewe visit their website at mkotsh.com.
