Municipal primary election runoffs tomorrow across the Coast
While some municipal primary elections were won earlier this month, several local primary elections will be part of the runoffs happening across the Coast tomorrow.
Two Coast cities will be holding mayoral primary runoffs. The winner of the Republican runoff in Ocean Springs between Kenny Holloway and Melanie Allen will be the next mayor of the City of Discovery.
In Moss Point, the winner of the democratic mayoral runoff between Jeramey Anderson and Billy Knight will advance to the general election on June 8th.
Additionally, the Gulfport City Council seats for wards four and seven will be determined in the runoffs Tuesday.
Cities are encouraging voters to make their way to the polls, even if they didn’t during the first primary elections. City of Gulfport Public Information Officer LaShaundra McCarty said, “The truth of the matter is what happens on the local level is far more important than even what happens in national elections. The people that you elect locally directly impact your livelihood. They influence the businesses that come to town, the roads that you have, your schools. They’re kinda leading the future and paving the way for you, and your children, and your grandchildren.”
Before heading to the voting precincts, voters can double check where they’re supposed to cast their ballots by checking their voter registration cards, visiting their city’s website and social media, or by calling their city hall.
