Multiple School Districts Issue Delays

Students are now back in class after many South Mississippi schools delayed due to the weather. Here’s a look at Lyman Elementary school this morning as students made their way in. Harrison county schools were on a two and a half hour delay. Superintendent Roy Gill tells News 25, the decision to possibly delay school start time began around 11 o’clock last night. Then the final decision to delay was made around 4:30 this morning after he spoke with Harrison County emergency management agency director Rupert Lacy. Any time there’s a decision to delay schools, gill says ensuring that information is relayed to parents is key. “We have an automatic call system. That is critical every year when we register we try to get new phone numbers and update the information at any times. And those phone numbers are pulled from our student information system and it’s an all-out call out. By a push of a button, everyone in the county gets that phone call.” – Superintendent Roy Gill Harrison County School District Parents of Harrison County school students can contact their student’s school to make sure their numbers are updated.
