MSU’s Teaira McCowan wins Gillom Trophy

On the women’s side, the most outstanding player in the Magnolia State is also the SEC Player of the Year with the Gillom Trophy going home with Teaira McCowan.

That keeps the award in Starkville for the fifth consecutive year on the back of Victoria Vivians winning it four times in a row. Like Vivians did last year, McCowan beat out two other teammates in the voting process, those being Jordan Danberry and Anriel Howard.

McCowan is pacing the Bulldogs with more than 17 points and 13 rebounds per game.

The senior says keeping her head down and her ears open has been a big part of her journey. “I didn’t really think coming into college that I would be where I am today so it was a long, hard road. I had to mature a lot and I had to just take a step back and try to get a lot of information because I knew that my coaches knew what was best for me.”

McCowan and the Bulldogs will await their fate on Selection Monday with MSU currently as a one seed in the Portland region in the NCAA Tournament, according to ESPN.
