MSU’s Joe Moorhead embracing high expectations

Each year, the Mississippi State Athletic Department loads up the bus for the Road Dawgs Tour, making ten stops across five different states. Tonight, the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino was the seventh venue on the schedule.

One of only two places to feature head football coach Joe Moorhead, head women’s basketball coach Vic Schaefer, and Athletic Director John Cohen. The longest autograph line was for Coach Moorhead, who just wrapped up his first spring camp in Starkville. The former Penn State offensive coordinator inherits a talented Bulldogs roster for 2018 which was picked to finish as high as third in the SEC West by several pre-season publications. “Some people talk about under-promise, over-deliver. I believe no one rises to low expectations. So we’re going to have to do a great job in our out of conference schedule and then certainly the SEC is very challenging with the razor thin margin or error on a weekly basis, and that’s the challenge. We’ve had one winning record in the SEC in the past 15 years so that’s something that’s part of the attraction to this job was to compete against the best, and I know that’s something our team is looking forward to,” said Coach Moorhead.

Moorhead says he’s been to the Gulf Coast two other times for recruiting visits.
