MSU RB Kylin Hill receives the key to the city in Columbus

If Mississippi State Running Back Kylin Hill had stuck with his original decision to declare for the NFL Draft he may not have ever been in the position to be a leading voice for change.

On Tuesday night, Hill was given the key to the city in his hometown of Columbus, Mississippi for his role in changing the state flag.

Last month, he tweeted that he would no longer represent the state until the flag was changed, prompting coaches from the state’s public universities to lobby for the removal of the Confederate battle emblem at the state capitol.

Mayor Robert Smith says Hill made “a heroic stand in the face of adversity.” Hill says receiving the key to the city feels “unreal.”

The 2019 Conerly Trophy Winner is the SEC’s top returning rusher.
