MSDH operating free drive-thru vaccination at the Coast Coliseum
One year ago today, the first positive case of COVID-19 was reported in the state of Mississippi.
The progress in the fight against COVID-19 can be seen as the State Department of Health is operating free drive-thru vaccination site locations around the state.
The site at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum is vaccinating about 980 qualifying individuals daily. The U.S. National Guard is working on site to make sure the process runs smoothly.
They would like to remind residents to only come if you have an appointment. They only have a certain amount of vaccines allocated daily. Also, they ask you to come during your appointment time. Vaccine recipient Aaron Scott said, “I got here early. The line wasn’t awful. It was about 15 to 20 minutes start to finish.”
Lt. Justin Forest is the officer in charge of the Harrison County vaccine site. He said, “It’s been a wonderful experience to be able to work along with the Mississippi Health Department to be able to facilitate the mission because overall it’s their mission. We’re just adding the bodies to be able to win hearts and minds.”
At the coliseum’s vaccine site, they distribute about 45 vaccines every 20 minutes. To book your appointment or see if you meet the qualification visit the Mississippi State Department of Health’s website.
