MS Highway Patrol Amps Up Patrols for the Holiday
The Highway Patrol will be setting up check points, weather permitting, and will have increased patrol on major roadways. Officers will mostly be keeping an eye out for distracted and drunk drivers. However, with heavy rain in the forecast, the Highway Patrol is ready for weather-related accidents as well.
Corporal Benjamin Seibert of the Mississippi Highway Patrol says, “For a lot of people that woke up in the morning, and the last thing on their mind was spending the afternoon in the emergency room. Slow down and watch your following distance. I’ve said it so many times: the speed limit out here on the interstate in 70 miles an hour, but if you run 70 miles an hour in the pouring rain, we’re gonna’ be fishing you out of this median.”
The Highway Patrol’s increased patrols will continue until Sunday night.
