Mother of Murdered Vancleave Teen Speaks

A Vancleave mother is trying to cope in the wake of her 16-year-old son’s murder.

After being reported missing, Vancleave High School freshman Cliff Allyn was found dead Thursday night in the woods behind his grandmother’s house. His 19-year-old cousin Dexter Kelley is being charged with murdering Allyn. Kelley will appear in court tomorrow. He is being held at the Jackson County Jail.

Today at the funeral home was the first time Allyn’s mother, Jenny Smith, saw her son’s face since before the incident. She tells News 25 it was a sight that was unbearable. “He had a black eye. His nose was broken. He had bruises all over his face and some of it was discoloration but he beat my son probably from behind and front. My nephew is no longer my family. He killed my pride and joy, my everything. Me and Cliff did everything together. I can’t even walk into Walmart without thinking of him. Everything I do, we did together.”

Smith tells News 25 even as a freshman, her son planned on attending Ole Miss. He was very involved in the ROTC program at his school.
