Moss Point receives community grant

The City of Moss Point has received another grant aimed at promoting healthy outdoor recreation and tourism within the city.

This Mississippi Gulf Coast National Heritage Area Community Grant is funded by the state legislature and Congressional appropriations to the National Park Service.

Moss Point will receive $3,860 from the grant which in turn will go towards a bike touring program complete with new bicycles and bike trails for the community and visitors to use.

Mayor Mario King says this grant is part of an overall goal to keep Moss Point active. “Our niche is all about nature, it’s all about staying outside and enjoying the outdoors and nature and this is our time, summertime, springtime, is where our residents get out the most. So, we’re excited about tourism. We’re excited about people coming and actually giving us another activity to do here in the City of Moss Point.”

Mayor King says the bikes should start rolling into the city in about two weeks.
