Moss Point Police standoff at Comfort Inn ends after suspect surrenders
MOSS POINT, Miss. (WXXV) — A suspect involved in a standoff with Moss Point Police has surrendered peacefully.
The standoff began at around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday at a Comfort Inn hotel in Jackson County, located near the intersection of Highway 63 and Interstate 10.
During the standoff, the suspect has broke through the glass of a third-story hotel window and threw furniture and other objects to the ground.
The suspect claimed to have a gun in his possession, but it is unclear if he was ever actually armed. The man threatened to jump from his hotel window multiple times.
Police made contact with the person’s mother in hopes that she could speak to him. When her voice was broadcast on a loudspeaker, the suspect said he did not want to speak with her.
The Moss Point Fire Department extended a ladder from a firetruck to the hotel room window and the suspect climbed on for a few moments before moving back into the hotel room.
With a negotiator on scene, police and fire crews were eventually able to get the man to exit the hotel room using the firetruck’s ladder shortly after 8 a.m.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
