Moss Point man represents the Coast in “The Voice” Snapchat competition
A Moss Point voice is now being heard nationwide as a result of season four of “The Voice” on Snapchat. Rod Stokes, a local construction worker, is now in the final stages of the popular competition that has all the power to change his life.
Rod Stokes found his love for singing at the age of 20. Now, at 34 he is getting close to living out one of his biggest dreams. “I’d give up the chainsaw, the dump truck, and equipment for a microphone and guitar any day.”
Thousands of people across the country submitted a video for season 4 of “The Voice” on Snapchat, a contest allowing aspiring singers to enter for a chance to win quality time with a Voice coach and snag a spot for the blind auditions for season 15 of “The Voice.” “I submitted it while I was driving down the road, in a dump truck, so they responded and it kind of just went from there and then they flew me out to California.”
Through the paid trip, Stokes was able to meet his coach, Kelly Clarkson. He now stands in the top four of the competition with just one day left of voting. “It really is like a dream because it’s really slow yet it’s going by. It’s crazy how it’s working. I’m just excited. I’m just trying to enjoy the process.”
If you would like to play a role in helping Rod Stokes win the competition you can vote for him on “The Voice” on Snapchat through tomorrow at 6 a.m. “It’s pretty ridiculous, the shares that I’ve received, the likes, the comments on Facebook, Instagram, it’s been wild.”
If Stokes wins, he will be flown out to Hollywood and introduced live on next week’s episode of “The Voice.” “I said, look, I’m just going to step up and try it. I don’t want to look back and have regrets.”
