Moss Point Community Resource Fair

Social Security officer, Celena Moore, has seen her share of Moss Point residents who work hard but need extra help getting by. She’s one of over a dozen vendors at the city’s riverfront offering resources to neighbors in need.
“In areas like Moss Point transportation can be an issue so we like to go out to community events so we can meet people halfway. We can give them information on how to file for social security, disability, retirement, SSI and the different programs we offer”, said Celena Moore.
The Community Connections Resource Fair also educated residents on how the community block grant funds are being used.
“We just really want to make sure people know that we’re out here. We’re available and we serve the Mississippi gulf coast. We offer free legal assistance to people who are income eligible, low-income families”, said Carolyn Geary of the Mississippi Center for Legal Services.
Whether it was cell phone services or even free legal services, Moss Point Residents had the advantage of having numerous businesses that could help them all in one room.
“Any time we can get this many vendors, this type of community support I think is a great thing. Any time we can educate the community, it’s a great thing. I’m full support of what the director, Ms. Cathy Keeton, is doing here in the city of Moss Point”, said State Representative Jeremy Anderson.
Today was also a chance to connect job seekers with some of the city’s business partners.
“We’ve partnered with the city of Moss Point and with the incubator here in Moss Point and we’re going to be doing some job training for individuals that are unemployed in an effort to create jobs.”
