Moss Point appoints interim police chief
Last week, the Moss Point chief of police resigned. Today, the city hosted a special meeting in which the board of alderman and the mayor discussed how they will go about appointing the next chief.
Following the meeting, city officials held an executive session where they appointed Deputy Chief Brandon Ashley as the acting interim chief. Tonight, the City of Moss Point also voted on and passed a search committee that will begin the process of finding and hiring a new chief.
News 25 spoke to Mayor Mario King who tells us the committee will work together to decide who will be the best fit as chief of police for the City of Moss Point. “We want to really look at the qualifications of individuals. We want to really have someone that has a strong administrative background, not just police background. So the process will be public and they will be presenting their presentation of what they want to do for the city. This will be a real true process that the community will be involved in and we are excited to move forward with it.”
Mayor King says that the process of finding the next chief can be lengthy, but the committee hopes to get it done in the next 30-40 days.
