Morning Star Baptist Church held their Holiday Food Drop today

With Christmas only two days away, a local church is celebrating the reason for the season and setting out on a mission to feed hundreds.

Dozens of volunteers gathered at the Morning Star Baptist Church in Gulfport this morning to help out with the Holiday Food Drop, a food drive held by the church.

Nearly 500 boxes of food were prepared to distribute to the line of waiting cars that wrapped around the church. Associate Pastor Keith Dunlap said, “We like to meet the needs of the people that we serve and the people of this community. We know that a lot of people are hurting at this time of the year and the pandemic so we wanted to do what we can do to make their Christmas merry. First is our lord and savior Jesus Christ. He cares for us and as he cares for us and as he cares for us, we are a vessel to use and spread that love into the community. That’s our job.”

Dunlap says the holiday drop would not have been possible without volunteers and the church’s partner ‘Feeding the Gulf Coast.’
