More Changes Coming to Taxi Industry
The Motor Vehicle for Hire Authority is considering raising insurance requirements for taxi cabs, but the potential changes have many small cab companies upset. They say a rise in insurance premiums along with a drop in cab fares at the airport could put the smaller companies out of business.
Michael Prestia, attorney for the disgruntled taxi drivers, says, “The zone map is so unconceivable, so unfair, it’s just impossible for these gentlemen to make a living from, and there’s no study or anything to support the rate they came up with. They would be working at $5 an hour if we followed this zone rate map.”
The airport has agreed to meet with the smaller cab companies next week to discuss a compromise.
