The Biloxi NAACP will hold its annual Freedom Fund Banquet Saturday, March 14th, 7 p.m. at the IP Casino, 850 Bayview Ave., Biloxi.

Rev. Dr. William Barber II, acclaimed North Carolina NAACP State President and national NAACP board member, will be the keynote speaker. Dr. Barber will be available to members of the press on various occasions before his address.

Dr. Barber has been the President of the North Carolina State Conference of the NAACP since 2005, was recently re-elected National Board Member, as well as appointed as the National NAACP Chair of the Legislative Political Action Committee. Under his leadership, the NAACP developed a new 21st Century voter registration/voter participation system. Nationwide, this system registered more than 442,000 new voters and provided access to 1.5 million voters.

Dr. Barber also gained national recognition as the architect behind the Moral Monday Movement, a grassroots multicultural protest that was held every Monday for several months throughout North Carolina to fight against several severe political policies in North Carolina such as Voter Suppression, Environmental Injustice, Controversial Police Shootings, Health Care Reform and Severe Cuts in Education and other Social Investments. The Movement has spread to other states including Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Missouri.

Dr. Barber’s prominence has made him a regular for interviews with the national and international media and has been regularly featured on NBC, MSNBC, CNN, NewsOne Now on TV-One, the NAACP’s Crisis Magazine, The New York Times, CBS, ABC, Aljazeera America, Fox News, and other news outlets.

Dr. Barber will speak on the theme, “Pursuing Liberty in the Face of Injustice.”
